There are hundreds of blog posts featuring the designs of websites for iPhone apps, but very few showcasing the design of the actual apps themselves. For those of you looking for a bit of iPhone app eye candy, I've compiled a few of my favorite sources of app design inspiration.

TapFancy

I wish there were more sites just like this one. TapFancy is a simple showcase of hand-picked apps which allows you to easily scroll through screens of each one.

iOSpirations

Another great showcase of app screens along with website designs for Mobile Safari, iPad apps, game designs and app website designs.

The iTunes App Store

This one seems pretty obvious, but iTunes includes screen shots of most apps and really is an easy way to quickly browse them all. It's suggestions are also great if you want to compare designs of similar apps.

iPhone Apps Gallery

This site provides a screen shot of each app and links directly to the iTunes app store.

CSS iPhone

CSS iPhone focuses on site design in Mobile Safari. Not exactly app design, but still worth a browse.

Dribbble

Dribbble encourages designers to share sneak peaks of projects they are currently working on. Although I like to browse all submissions, the iPhone tag is a great filter and lets you see only the iPhone related items.

Are we missing any? Let us know your favorite sources of inspiration when designing iPhone apps.

Just Trust Me

by Amanda Morrow in , 20 August 2010

So I’m the new guy. I’m learning the ropes, deciphering the personalities of my co-workers and figuring out their expectations.

I’ve only worked here for a few months, but I’ve noticed an incredible quality surrounding BitMethod and its clients. Trust.

We had a design review recently with one of our clients. As he viewed our mockups, he asked several questions and voiced his concerns. This isn’t anything new, but once he left, I began browsing my notes and quickly realized I didn’t have a million things to change, just ideas our team needed to discuss and then decide the best plan of action.

It’s refreshing to work with clients who trust us to make the right decisions for them and they let us worry about the details.

In the past, I’ve spent days and weeks working on a project, conducting research and carefully making decisions. I would then share my work with my colleagues only to see it instantly drown in a sea of red ink without as much as one question. You hire smart and talented people because they are SMART and TALENTED. Trust them to do what you hired them to do.

Don’t get me wrong. Critiques are incredibly important, but should revolve more around discussions than demands. Otherwise you end up making decisions based on your personal tastes as opposed to developing the best solution for your client.

So look at the people around you. Do you trust them or have you ever worked with someone who hasn’t trusted you?

Welcome to a new feature here on Brick by Brick. Every few weeks we will highlight a few of our favorite faves, you know, random things that make us feel all warm and fuzzy inside.

1. 80/35

The third annual 80/35 festival took place over the Fourth of July weekend here in Des Moines and Uncle Sam would be proud. Great music and mostly great weather. One of our favorites was local William Elliott Whitmore, who hails from Lee County, Iowa.

We also enjoyed:
The Cool Kids – Download their entire album here
Modest Mouse – Watch their video ‘Float On’
Earl Greyhound – Watch their video ‘S.O.S.’
Sara Watkins – Watch her perform ‘Long Hot Summer Days’ Live

2. iOS4

None of us have the iPhone 4 yet, but we are definitely enjoying the upgrade to iOS4. The folders, the multitasking, the spell checker and the replace word thingie. It’s the little things that make us happy.

3. The World Cup

We love us some football. The U.S. didn’t make it as far as we would have liked, but now we have an office vuvezela, and plenty of earplugs.

4. Fake Twitter Accounts

Why bore yourself with tweets from REAL people when you can enjoy updates from amazing imposters such as @bpglobalpr and @sarrahpalinU5A.

5. Zach Anner

So Oprah is creating her own network and is searching for THE next TV star. She held an online contest, people uploaded their audition videos, and the internet voted.

The “unofficial” winner is Zach Anner, a 25-year-old from Austin, TX, who was born with cerebral palsy. Even though he received 9.1 million votes, his win is “unofficial” until he makes it through another round of auditions in Hollywood and is offered a show. Regardless of the outcome, Zach’s audition is hilarious and so are the other videos on his YouTube page. If Oprah doesn’t hire him, someone else definitely should.

So those were a few of the things we are into right now, what are some of your current faves?

Hey Everyone! I’m Amanda and I’m here to introduce myself to all you BitMethod fans out there. That’s me as Leslie Hall for Halloween last year. Pretty good, right?

I was brought onto the team to be a design machine, like a robot who shoots awesome designs at all projects in its path. I’m also proud to be the first female to join the staff, which means I’m fluent in nerd and “talkin’ ‘bout guy stuff.”

I’m originally from a small town in Iowa where my childhood was reminiscent of “The Field of Dreams.” I grew up with corn AND a baseball field in my backyard. After high school, I moved to the big city (Des Moines) to go to Grand View University, where I studied journalism, graphic design and public relations.

After college, I worked at The Des Moines Register where I was given the task of developing merchandise for one of Iowa’s greatest events: RAGBRAI. Even though I didn’t ever end up meeting Lance Armstrong, it was awesome to meet people from all over the world who would tell me how much they loved Iowa.

My strengths are graphic design, writing and marketing, but I also dabble in a little HTML and CSS. As for all the other essential information, I’m a vegan with a horrible sweet tooth. I’m deathly afraid of Mogwais and in my free time, I enjoy collecting fonts, seeking out photos of obnoxiously adorable animals and teaching my wiener dog how to ride a skateboard.

I’ve been into design for a long time, but I’m fairly new to the tech industry so I would love to hear what everyone is working on. Feel free to follow me on twitter at @amandamorrow.
